Description

The main purpose of this position is to analyse and provide insight into the current state of data and their maturity in support of reliable and effective decision making within the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) Group, which will enhance opportunities within the Financial Stability Department (FinStab) to use reliable data for effective policy decision making.

Detailed Description

Identify data profiles of data sets discovered to determine completeness and compliance as well as for the purpose of inventory management.


  • Establish relationships between data elements and their impact on the business.
  • Understand business requirements and address matters of data completeness and data quality.
  • Conduct analysis to track a data set's life cycle from its initial generation to its eventual archival and/or deletion.
  • Conduct data analysis to determine various categories of data and information.
  • Conduct data analysis to determine the importance of the data to the business and the probability of reuse.
  • Produce regular reports and provide status updates as well as information for business domain.
  • Develop and manage stakeholder relations effectively to promote data management across the organisation and support reliable decision making and appropriate data usage.
  • Provide input as data transition from source to destination.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and other data management specialists in defining and standardising key data management and quality artefacts to support reliable decision making and appropriate data usage.
Job Requirements
a Bachelor's degree (NQF 7) in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or an equivalent qualification; and
- a minimum of 5-8 years' experience in the field of data analysis.


Additional requirements include:
- capacity and performance management;

- extensive knowledge of:

- best practices/methodologies in data warehousing and multi-dimensional data modelling (online analytical processes (OLAP), e.g. Microsoft Analysis Services), system design and management;
- most data modelling techniques; and
- the most common relational database management systems (RDBMS) technologies (e.g. Oracle, IBM, SQL Server, MySql);
- knowledge of database query languages (e.g. SQL); and

- experience in:

- deploying and managing big data environments (e.g. Hadoop, Spark and NoSQL);
- a variety of programming languages, including but not limited to JAVA and C#; and
- using a broad variety of integration techniques, patterns, tools and methodologies.
