We are looking for a Technical Assistant:

TB to provide expert technical expertise in the implementation of strategy for TB and to lead health system strengthening efforts of the Tuberculosis and PMCTCT programme in the Cape Town in close collaboration with the Department of Health and other relevant stakeholders.

Support to the TB and PMTCT programme involves technical and operational support with regards to diagnosis, clinical management, and treatment of TB/PMTCT, TB infection control and TB preventive measures such as TPT.


Key Duties and Responsibilities


Assist in implementation of ANOVA's APACE QI; CLI; TB or PMTCT related activities at district, subdistrict, and facility level, in line with the APACE strategy and workplan.

Strategic planning through working with appropriate Anova teams, and/or external stakeholders. Feedback to facilities and Anova managers, facilitate implementation of recommendations.

Support performance monitoring systems to ensure efficient operations; reliable indicators are defined, collected, and analysed routinely.


Work closely with Anova teams, and external stakeholders to keep data processes at high standard to adequately reflect the program.

Ensure facilities have all the relevant national and provincial guidelines, protocols, algorithms, and IEC materials.

Support innovative projects that can be implemented to improve performance of the QI, CLI, TB, or PMTCT programme


Work with SD teams to identify facilities that would be used as "best practice models" for the purpose of learning, as well as write appropriate documentation to share learning.

By using quality improvement methodology identify gaps, recommend corrective actions, and monitor through appropriate actions, including facility site visits. Promote QI, CLI, TB, or PMTCT through mentorship and support, to enable adequate implementation activities.

Mentors and coaches Anova teams on CLI/QI/PMTCT related activities.

Ensure training/mentorship based on identified gaps. Appropriate focus areas and targets to be identified and agreed with the SD manager.

Identify additional training needs at facilities aligned with latest guidelines and protocols.


Complete, compile, and submit the relevant reports (monthly, quarterly and adhoc) as identified by line manager and as required by funders.

Prepare weekly plan for specific activities focusing on certain priority areas identified from the reports, timeously.

Assist to update stakeholders through regular presentations both internally and externally (such as AOR and JPPM presentations.)

Follow performance management process of Anova through timeous submission of all relevant documentation.


Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required

Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required:
Diploma with PHC (Nursing Clinician) registration with the SANC Registration with the relevant South African Council or Professional Body

At least five (5) years' experience with TB, PMTCT and HIV/AIDS control programs or other health issues

At least three (3) years' experience working in technical leadership, oversights, design, and implementation of TB, PMTCT and HIV/AIDS programmes

WC NIMART authorised/ WC NIMART trained and mentored

Demonstrated technical knowledge and leadership in programme management, strategic planning, and policy experience

Ability to communicate technical and policy issues clearly and effectively

Good knowledge of Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART), TB, PMTCT and Chronic Medication and guidelines

Demonstrated openness and flexibility in responding to changing work priorities and environment

Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills

Good presentation and communication skills

Good report writing skills

Proficiency with MS Office

A valid driver's license
