The Chemistry Department hosted within the Faculty of Natural Science is a leading teaching and research unit at the University of the Western Cape and delivers structured Chemistry courses across disciplines.

The Department offers under-graduated Chemical Sciences Program, a non-endorsed Honours degree and a Masters in Nano-Science (Chemistry) course with the National Nano-Science Hub resident in the Department of Chemistry.


The department seeks to appoint a Departmental Administrator to assist with all Departmental administrative procedures, in order to ensure alignment and compliance with central administrative systems and procedures.


  • Academic Administration and student administration.
  • Enquiry Management.
  • Marks Administration.
  • Committee Administration;
  • Financial Administration including budget administration and procurement.
  • Event/Venue Organisation.
  • Meeting/Minutes Administration.
  • Human Resources Administration.
  • Reception Duties.
  • General Administration and Reporting including office administration, assisting document management, liaising with service providers, etc.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 and a relevant threeyear postmatric qualification with two years relevant experience
    OR Matric with three to five years relevant experience;
- proficiency in computer programmes/software packages e.g. Word; Excel / MS Office Suites /Power Point


Required competencies:


  • Demonstrated communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, and to adhere to and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work without supervision and to pay attention to detail.

Added advantage and preferences:


  • Administrative experience in a Higher Education environment as well as knowledge of student administration systems.
