Job DescriptionThe incumbent is responsible to perform analysis on samples-primarily coal, but also ferro-chrome and related ores or other-as-directed by the Laboratory Manager or nominated deputy or in accordance with the approved test methods and required calibration
- and Quality control measures. To assist Line Management in maintaining ISO 17025 SANAS accreditation and extent the scope of accreditation where required.
- Analyze all received samples in the most accurate and productive way and report the results correctly, clearly, objectively and unambiguously as per relevant prescribed test method instructions.
Ensure that all equipment is calibrated before use.
Perform the analyses on all samples within the minimum turn-around-time without compromising quality.
Report results on time to the Lab Manager or deputy.
Keep the Lab Manager informed regarding progress and/or nonconformance.
Ensure equipment is maintained and kept in good working order, report any faulty equipment to the Lab Manager.
Maintain a high standard of security and confidentiality in the laboratory with respect to information and results.
Ensure work is carried out with due regard to good housekeeping and safety policies.
Conduct the allocated safety checks within the time allowed on regular basis.
Investigate analytical nonconformance timeously to correct and improve the situation and prevent re occurrences.
Assist with registration of SLIMS job data, issuance of labels and creation of job files, ensuring traceability of all jobs.
Assist with implementation of new and existing laboratory methods/services, as well as the validation thereof.Assist in maintaining Laboratory accreditation to ISO 17025.Initiate ordering of consumables / reagents and instrument spares when necessary through the appropriate channels to maintain uninterrupted operation in the laboratory.
Ensure all traceability is properly completed and filed accordingly.Always wear correct PPE.Minimize cost without compromising service delivery and quality.
Maintain good housekeeping and keep workplace clean and tidy.
Assist Laboratory Manager with training of personnel.
Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year Laboratory experience preferably in coal and chrome analysis field.
Working knowledge of laboratory in line with ISO 17025.Fluent in EnglishGood communication and interpersonal skillsAttention to detailWell organizedComputer literate in Excel
- C Class LIMS experience will be an added advantage
