In delivering 'social science that makes a difference' the Research Divisions, Units, Institutes and Centres of the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) undertake policy-oriented research from its offices in Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, and Pietermaritzburg.
The Inclusive Economic Development (IED) division undertakes research that aims to transform educational outcomes and increase economic participation.
It recognises that education and the economy have long been linked, and thus conducts research in both areas, sometimes discretely, often overlapping, and through a multidisciplinary lens.
We research ways to improve the context of learning for those who have had unequal starting points as well the social, spatial, and structural obstacles to economic participation to bring about the gains and growth South Africa needs.
The Inclusive Economic Development unit requires the services of freelance mainstreaming consultants with the ability to provide high quality literature reviews on mainstreaming of economic empowerment of gender, youth and disability over a 2-month period as and when the need arises.
The specialist(s) will focus on supporting IED to review relevant literature in South Africa and elsewhere globally and to support the review and further development, monitoring and evaluation of an Economic Mainstreaming strategy aimed at supporting the effective achievement of the Presidential Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Programme in respect of gender, youth and persons with disabilities.
FREELANCE EXPERTS IN MAINSTREAMING OF GENDER, YOUTH AND PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (Freelancer contract x 4)**:
Minimum Requirements:
- Must possess strong research experience and excellent writing and editing in English,
- Proven ability to excel as a collegial member of a diverse team and in working in a multicultural working
- Excellent problemsolving abilities, comfortable working in a fastpaced environment, and the ability to engage in and contribute to ongoing sociopolitical
- Must be discrete and able to handle confidential matters with
- Must have welldeveloped emotional intelligence, including selfawareness, self
- Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize work and manage deadlines
- Willingness to work under pressure.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review reports and available documentation in respect of this
- Support the mainstreaming and social inclusion of gender, youth and persons with disabilities within the Presidential
- Developing relevant material including training manuals and learning tools for enabling mainstreaming for the three target groups as
- Produce a draft mainstreaming strategy for the relevant sector as per the stipulated timeframes.

- Assist with the development and implementation of a monitoring and evaluation framework to assess progress towards mainstreaming within the IRRP
Qualifications Experience**:
- At least four years of proven experience, with a focus on enhancing mainstreaming, gender equality, social inclusion and diversity outcomes on projects (especially with a focus on youth and persons with disabilities as
- Experience of working with multiple internal and external stakeholders, an added advantage.
- Significant experience with development of Mainstreaming Strategies at national level across transversal
