Role Context


Responsible for implementing and enforcing a culture of Health and Safety within DHL Express ZA, perform and initiate all activities in support of health and safety initiatives; ensure effective and efficient compliance with local Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental regulations.


Key responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence and implement all relevant legal requirements and regulations
  • Maintain compliance and ensure legal appointments are up to date, legal systems, safety registers/ checklists are conducted, health and safety talks and committee meetings are conducted as required, contractors are managed
  • Enforce the Country's Health and Safety strategy, policies and standards in stations and gateways
  • Compile and review operational site risk assessments as and when required.
  • Utilise risk assessment results to facilitate the implementation of preventative and corrective measures.
  • Ensure that all nonconformances are timeously reported, investigated and attended to within the prescribed time.
  • Conduct injury investigations and accident reviews in line with company policies and procedures
  • Conduct internal risk audits in accordance with company policy and procedure to ensure good governance and compliance.
  • Administer Country facilities safety initiatives and lead continuous improvement efforts in those areas, utilizing effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Keep updated of local safety regulation changes that affect the DHL Express ZA.
  • Compile and report on, safety and health records and statistics and track the number of incidents and produce reports monthly for all gateways and stations.
  • Determine training needs and assist in delivery of training program
  • Ensuring Compliance with DHL Express ZA departments, contractors and stakeholders with SHE legislation and internal DHL Express SHE Policies and Procedures.
  • Manage the SHE subcontractor team assisting in delivery of SHE Programs
  • Assist in responding to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies and the public regarding Safety, Health, and Environmental issue.
  • Assist in implementation of ISO45001 and ISO14001

Minimum Requirements

  • Education & experience_


  • Grade 1

  • National Diploma in Safety Management /Environment
  • Samtrac or equivalent
  • Nebosh
  • Incident Investigation
  • Internal auditing
  • Legal Liability
  • At least 5 years' experience in the field of Health and Safety
