Role Purpose


The Assortment Solution Specialist plays a crucial role in the Insights and Data Monetisation Tribe to drive business value by providing data-driven insights and recommendations for product assortment strategies.

This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, conducting thorough market analysis, and translating and presenting findings into stories that derive customer centric insights.

The primary objective is to ensure optimal product offering in the correct channels to maximise revenue and enhance the shopping experience


Role Description

Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:

  • Collaborate closely with crossfunctional teams, including Buying and Category Management, Marketing, and Executive Leadership, to align ranging strategies with overall business objectives.

Assortment Strategy Development:

  • Conduct comprehensive market analysis, considering consumer trends, competitor offerings, and market dynamics, to develop data-driven assortment insights for category strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for assortment optimisation, identify product gaps, and suggest potential new product introductions.

Range Reviews and Optimisation:

  • Conduct regular range reviews in conjunction with Category Specialists, evaluating product performance and market trends.
  • Develop Customer Decision Trees (CDTs) and recommend assortment adjustments based on the insights gained.

Assortment Product Champion:

  • Measure assortment analytics, monitor category health, and track performance metrics against strategic initiatives.
  • Identify areas for improvement and make datadriven recommendations to enhance category performance.

Market and Consumer Insights:

  • Stay up to date with industry trends, consumer behaviour, and market dynamics to anticipate customer needs and preferences.
  • Gather and analyse data from various sources, including thirdparty data, to provide recommendations for new product launches and identify innovation opportunities.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent diploma in Business, Marketing, Economics, or a related field.
- +4 years of experience in Category Management, Merchandising, Retail Analytics, or a similar role, preferably within the retail or consumer goods industry.

  • Proven track record of delivering impactful insights and driving business results through assortment strategies.
  • Indepth knowledge of the retail industry, market trends, and consumer behaviour (essential).
  • Understanding of product categories, brand positioning, and competitor landscape.
  • Skilled in gathering, organising, and interpreting large volumes of market data, customer insights, and sales metrics (essential).
  • Proven ability to conduct range reviews, identify product performance trends, and recommend assortment adjustments to align with business objectives.
  • Familiarity with data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suit (PowerPoint and Excel essential)
  • Highly datadriven with a passion for using insights to make informed decisions.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Detailoriented with excellent project management skills to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates adaptability and openness to innovation and continuous improvement.
