Description

Principal Accountabilities
Implementation and compliance to the Gautrain's Environmental Management Programme.


Enhancement and or at least Maintenance of an Environmental Management System (EMS) to ensure system compliance with the applicable standards, laws and regulations (e.g.

ISO Standards, Customer Management Standards, Environmental Legislation, Company Policies, Environmental Authorizations, Permits and Water se Licenses etc.)


Specific Responsibilities
Assisting in ensuring necessary environmental authorizations and permits are maintained.

Contract management. (Writing specifications, adjudication of tenders and on-site contractor management).


Implementation and maintenance of an Environmental Management System (EMS) to ensure system compliance with the applicable standards, laws and regulations (e.g.

ISO Standards, Customer Management Standards, Environmental Legislation, Company Policies, Environmental Authorizations, Permits and Water se Licenses etc.)


Carry out normal and special environmental audits and inspections according to a set time schedule to monitor compliance with all applicable standards, laws and regulations.

Co-ordinate and assist with environmental audits and inspections conducted by external parties as and when required.


Raise and follow up on environmental corrective actions regarding deviations/non-compliances noted or emanating from internal and external audits and inspections.

Ensure that all environmental related documents are updated and controlled in line with the organisation's documented information management process.

Coordinate various environmental consultants and specialists.

Review all reports and documents produced by environmental consultants and specialists.

Report and co-ordinate progress and compliance to agreed time limits.

Write and verify reports for approval by Management. Collate critical project information.

Operate within agreed budget and time frame.

Provide technical environmental and ecological advice as when required.

Participate in meetings with Environmental Authorities, Provincial Government and Local Authorities.

Attend public liaison meetings and authority committees.

Assist in corresponding with interested and affected parties.

Create with all employees a culture that promotes a positive stewardship towards an Environmental Management System (EMS).

Background Requirements
BSc or B-tech degree in Environmental Management/Sciences

Good understanding of environmental legislation

Computer Literacy (Microsoft Packages)

Code 8 Drivers license

Fluency in English

4-5 Experience in implementation of Environmental Management Programs and Maintenance of ISO 14001 certified EMS.

Railway experience would be advantageous
